The Synopsis Final Grade

This story begins with Lily talking to her social sciences teacher, Mr. Reiner, over the B she got on a test in his class. She's seriously upset over this B because social sciences is an honors class. Plus, she has to make perfect grades in order to become valedictorian. Lily is furious because this guy obviously doesn't change about her grade. Since this is Shadyside, the solution to all problems is murder, of course.

Julie's cousin, Graham. Lily hates Graham because he's her number one contender in the battle for valedictorian. One night the phone rings. She picks up and it's some weirdo who says "Lily, it's me. Someone who knows you, Lily. Someone who knows everything about you. Someone who watches you all the time." What happened to the old fashioned heavy breathers? Lily freaks out and asks who it is. They, of course, simply hang up.

Lily takes off to Mr Reiner's room to have a little chat. She goes inside the room and finds it empty...or she thinks. She peeks over the side of the teacher's desk and GASP! Mr. Reiner is dead, lying in a puddle of blood. Apparently, he was pushed off of the ladder he was using to change a lightbulb in the classroom. After Mr. Reiner's funeral, Lily is all cheery and such because she thinks she has a better chance at valedictorian.

One evening, after copious amounts of homework, Lily receives another weird phone call again. This time, the nut simply says "I know all about you, Lily and I know you got what you wanted. Didn't you?" Lily asks who it is AGAIN and the caller hangs up. Creepy telephone stalker types do not give away their identity that easily.

She gets home at 11 PM and receives ANOTHER phone call. "I want what you want. And I'm going to help you, if you'll let me. Please, Lily, let me help."Lily doesn't bother asking who it is this time because really, what did that achieve the last time she asked? She just slams the phone down and goes to bed. What, no studying?

The next day is the "big" Trivia Contest. Lily gets extremely nervous and screws up which results in Graham winning the contest. In the printing plant, Lily suddenly hears the printing press come to life. She looks up and screams--Graham's lifeless body is crammed inside the press. Lily, being the idiot she is, tries to pulls his body out. She hears his bones crunching and such and finally she has him free. She looks at his corpse lying on the floor, blood seeping out everywhere, and she passes out.

She runs home and when inside her bedroom, she discovers Graham's horn-rimmed glasses lying on her bed. Scott enters the room and tells her that he put Graham's glasses on her bed. He killed Graham. He claims that he did it for Lily. He killed Graham and Mr. Reiner and it was all for Lily. Scott confesses that he loves Lily and wants her to love him back. When guys murder people in the name of love for me, I usually just give them a pat on the back and send them on their way.

The next day, while Lily is working, Julie calls to tell Lily that she has found a clue in the Graham "investigation"--a message on the answering machine at the printing press for Graham! Lily lets it slip that Julie told her about the message and Scott reacts by saying that he will now have to kill Julie.

Anyway, Scott and Julie wrestle a little and Scott ends up shooting Julie. He grabs her and hugs her, saying it'll all be ok. Lily happens to glance over Scott's shoulder...and sees Julie standing up and walking slowly towards them. Julie picks up a metal bar that's lying on top of the printing press and smashes Scott in the head with it. He crumples to the floor and Lily runs over to Julie, asking how is she still alive? Turns out the gun was actually a starter pistol. The girls call the police and their parents. Scott sits up, makes a gurgling noise, and falls back to the floor dead.

Sinister is a 2012 American supernatural horror film directed by Scott Derrickson and written by Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill. It stars Ethan Hawke as fictional true-crime writer Ellison Oswalt who discovers a box of home movies in his attic that puts his family in danger.

Plot

The film opens with Super 8 footage depicting a family of four standing beneath a tree with sacks over their heads and nooses around their necks. An unseen figure saws through a branch acting as a counterweight, causing their deaths by hanging.

Months later, true crime writer Ellison Oswalt (Ethan Hawke) moves into the murdered family's home with his wife, Tracy (Juliet Rylance), and their two children, 7-year-old Ashley (Clare Foley), an artist who is allowed to paint on her walls, and 12-year-old Trevor (Michael Hall D'Addario), who begins re-experiencing bizarre night terrors upon moving into their new home. Only Ellison is aware that the house they are moving into was the crime scene from the opening scene. Ellison intends to use the case of the murdered family as the basis for his new book, and hopes that his research will reveal the fate of the Stevenson family's fifth member, a 10-year-old girl named Stephanie who disappeared following the murders.

Ellison finds a box (along with a black scorpion) in the attic that contains a projector and several reels of Super 8 mm footage that are each labeled as innocent home movies. Ellison discovers that the films are actually snuff films depicting different families being murdered in various ways: being tied to sunbeds and drowned in their pool (Pool Party '66), being bound and gagged and burned to death in a car (BBQ '79), being run over by a lawn mower (Lawn Work '86), being bound and gagged and having their throats slit in bed (Sleepy Time '98), and the hanging from the opening of the film (Family Hanging Out '11). The drowning film is especially disturbing for Ellison when he notices the face of a demonic figure watching the drownings from the bottom of the pool. Ellison eventually finds the demonic figure throughout all the films along with a strange painted symbol. Upon inspecting the lid of the box containing the films, and a snake, Ellison discovers childish drawings depicting the murders, along with crude sketches of the demonic figure, called "Mr. Boogie."

Consulting a local deputy (James Ransone), Ellison discovers that the murders depicted in the films took place at different times, beginning in the 1960s, and in different cities across the country. He also learns that some of the families were drugged before being killed, and that a child from each family went missing following every murder. The deputy refers Ellison to a local professor, Jonas (Vincent D'Onofrio), whose expertise is the occult and demonic phenomena, to decipher the symbol in the films. Jonas tells Ellison that the symbols are that of a pagan Babylonian deity named Bughuul (Nick King), who would kill entire families and then take one of their children into his realm in order to consume his/her soul.

One night, Ellison spots Bughuul in the bushes and rushes outside, armed with a baseball bat, only to find Trevor, having experienced yet another night terror and rushes him back inside. Ellison returns outside to retrieve his bat when he encounters a black rottweiler. The dog sees the missing children standing behind Ellison, causing the dog to flee out of fear. The second night, Ellison hears a noise within the home and investigates, again armed with his bat, being plagued by the missing children in various states of decay. After Ellison checks in on Ashley and leaves, Stephanie is shown in front of Ashley, painting her family's murder with Bughuul. The third night, Ellison hears the film projector running and goes up to the attic. There, he finds the missing children watching one of the films. Bughuul suddenly appears on camera before physically appearing before Ellison. Ellison takes the camera and the films to the backyard and burns them. His recently awakened wife meets him outside and he tells her that they're moving back to their old house immediately.

At his old home, Ellison receives a message from Professor Jonas, who sends him scans of historical images associated with Bughuul; the images have been partially destroyed by the early Christians, who believed that images of Bughuul served as a gateway for the demon to come from the spiritual realm to the mortal world; the images include the symbol from the murders along with a scorpion, a snake, and a black beast. According to Professor Jonas, people, especially children, who saw the images of Bughuul could be possessed and even abducted into the images. Ellison discovers the projector and films in his attic, along with a new envelope of film labeled "extended cut endings". During this time, the deputy tries calling several times, but Ellison never answers. The next time the deputy calls, while Ellison is assembling the films, he finally answers. The deputy informs him that he has discovered a link between the murders: every family had previously lived in the house where the last murder took place, and each new murder occurred shortly after the family moved from the crime scene into their new residence. By moving, Ellison has placed himself and his family in line to be the next victims.

Ellison watches the footage, and finds that it depicts the missing children coming onscreen following each murder, revealing themselves to be the killers, apparently under Bughuul's possession before suddenly disappearing. Before he can react, Ellison becomes light-headed, and upon inspection of his coffee cup, he notices a bright green liquid mixed with the coffee and finds a note reading "Good Night, Daddy" before losing consciousness. Ashley appears behind Ellison, revealing herself to be the drugger, under Bughuul's possession. Ellison awakens to find himself, Tracy and Trevor bound and gagged. Ashley approaches holding the 8 mm camera, and promises him that she will make him famous again. Ashley then decapitates Tracy with an axe before going on to kill Elison and Trevor, using their blood to paint images of cats, dogs and unicorns on the walls. With her work complete, Ashley views the Super-8 film of her murders, which concludes with an image of the missing children watching her. Bughuul appears, causing the children to flee in fear. He then lifts Ashley into his arms and disappears into the film with her.

The film concludes with an image of the box of films in the Oswalt family's attic, now accompanied by Ashley's reel, labeled "House Painting '12". The camera slowly pans away from the box, until Bughuul appears onscreen and the screen cuts out.

Trypophobia

Trypophobia is a claimed pathological fear of holes, particularly irregular patterns of holes. The term was coined in 2005 from the Greek τρύπα (trýpa) "hole" and φόβος (phóbos) "fear". Thousands of people say they have the condition. It is not recognized in the American Psychiatric Association's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) or other scientific literature.
Arnold Wilkins and Geoff Cole of the University of Essex's Centre for Brain Science were the first scientists to investigate trypophobia. They believe the reaction is based on a biological revulsion, rather than a learned cultural fear. In a 2013 article in Psychological Science, Wilkins and Cole write that the reaction is based on a brain response that associates the shapes with danger. Shapes that elicit a reaction were said to include clustered holes in innocuous contexts such as fruit and bubbles, and in contexts associated with danger, such as holes made by insects and holes in wounds and diseased tissue. Upon seeing these shapes, some people said they shuddered, felt their skin crawl, experienced panic attacks, sweated, palpitated, and felt nauseated or itchy. Some said the holes seemed "disgusting and gross" or that "something might be living inside those holes". Psychiatrist Carol Mathews believes that the responses are more likely from priming and conditioning.
A website, trypophobia.com, describes the phenomenon with videos and images. Images containing clusters of holes are presented in an arrangement that claims to rank the likelihood they will induce fear. Early images in the series include fruits such as oranges and pomegranates. Then, clusters of holes with a possible association with danger are presented, such as honeycombs, frogs, and insects and arachnids. Finally, images feature wounds and diseases. Using data from the site, Wilkins and Cole analyzed example images and believe that the images had "unique characteristics". They state that the reaction behind the phobia was an "unconscious reflex reaction" based on a "primitive portion of the brain that associates the image with something dangerous". In another research article, Le, Cole and Wilkins developed a symptom questionnaire that they say can be used to identify trypophobia.

Early years (1996–2000)

Linkin Park was founded by three high school friends: Mike Shinoda, Rob Bourdon, and Brad Delson. The three attended Agoura High School in Agoura Hills, California, a suburb of Los Angeles. After graduating from high school, the three began to take their musical interests more seriously, recruiting Joe Hahn, Dave "Phoenix" Farrell, and Mark Wakefield to perform in their band, Xero. Though limited in resources, the band began recording and producing songs within Shinoda's makeshift bedroom studio in 1996, resulting in a four-track demo tape, entitled Xero. Tensions and frustration within the band grew however after they failed to land a record deal. The lack of success and stalemate in progress prompted Wakefield, at that time the band's vocalist, to leave the band in search of other projects. Farrell also left to tour with Tasty Snax, a Christian punk and Ska band.

After spending a considerable time searching for Wakefield's replacement, Xero recruited Arizona vocalist, Chester Bennington, who was recommended by Jeff Blue, the vice president of Zomba Music in March 1999. Bennington, formerly of a post-grunge band by the name of Grey Daze, became a standout among applicants because of the dynamic in his singing style. The band then agreed on changing its name from Xero to Hybrid Theory; the newborn vocal chemistry between Shinoda and Bennington helped revive the band, inciting them to work on new material. In 1999 the band released a self-titled extended play, which they circulated across internet chat-rooms and forums with the help of an online 'street team'. The band's renaissance culminated with a change in name; from Hybrid Theory, the band once again changed its name, this time to Linkin Park, a play on and homage to Santa Monica's Lincoln Park. The band initially wanted to utilize the name "Lincoln Park", however they changed it to "Linkin" to acquire the internet domain "linkinpark.com".  After failing to catch Warner Bros. Records on three previous reviews, Jeff Blue, now the vice president of Warner Bros. Records, helped the band sign a deal with the company in 1999. The band released its breakthrough album, Hybrid Theory, the following year.

Tugas 4 Softskill

Direct speech is when we report what someone says by repeating the exact words. In writing, we use inverted commas.

Example : "I have to talk to you about something," said David

Indirect speech (also called reported speech) is when we give the same meaning of what someone says without repeating the exact words. In this case, we do not use inverted commas and certain changes may be necessary.

Example : David said he had to talk to me about something.

The changes that need to be from the Direct to Indirect Speech:

1.        To be & Auxiliary Verbs

Direct                                       Indirect
Am/is/are                    -             was/were
Shall/will                    -             should/would
Can                             -             could
May                            -             might
Must
Have/has to                -              had to
Ought to

2.        Time & Place

Direct                                       Indirect
now                                 -           then
tomorrow                         -          the following day
next week                        -          the following week
tonight                             -          that night
today                               -           that day
yesterday                         -          the day before
last night                         -           the night before
last week                         -           the week before,
                                                    the precious week
here                                 -           there
this                                  -           that
these                               -           those

3.        Tenses

Direct                                       Indirect
Simple present                   -        simple past
Simple past
                                           -        past perfect
Present perfect
Present continous              -        past continous
Present perfect continous  -        past perfect continous
Simple future                     -        past future

Three kinds of Direct and Indirect Speech

a. Statement

In indirect statement, "that" is used as a connector between the introductory sentences and words reported. If the introductory sentence in the form of Simple Present Tense, then the sentence which reported no change. Introductory sentences in indirect statement is:

He said
He said to me                    that + reported words
He told me

Example:
Direct : He said, “Adi is ill”
Indirect : He said that adi was ill

b. Command

Command consist of two types:
Positive command and negative command

Positive Command
In the core pattern introductory phrase is expressed with verbs: tell, ask, advise, etc. To be followed by the infinitive. Introductory sentences in these types are:
to + infinitive

Example:
Direct : The teacher said to me : “open your book”
Indirect : The teacher asked me to open my book

Negative Command
The statement is negative sentence. In order not to negatively we add in front of the command reported.

Example:
Direct : Father asked me : “ Don’t go out”
Indirect : Father asked me no to go out

c. Question
When direct questions (direct question) use words such questions as; Where, When, Why, What, Who, How, etc., then these words are used as intermediaries in Reported Speech. Questions were reported change into a positive form. Introductory sentence is:

Positive Form

He asked me       Where
                         When etc.

Example:
The man asked me : “Where do you live ?”
The man asked me where I lived.
If the direct question does not use the question marks, and the only question in the form of "Yes & No Question", then we use the words if from, whether (if, if) as a connector between the introductory sentence and the question that was reported.

Example:
The boy asked John : “Does Mary live near  here?”
The boy asked John if Mary lived near there.

Imperative

Infinitive form

Example:
He told me, “wait for me !”
He told me to wait for him.

Negative Form

Example:
She told me, “don’t cheat anymore !”
She told me not to cheat anymore.
